Once you decide that you need a little individualized attention for you pup, how do you decide between the growing list of people who call themselves trainers. Let me walk you through how we put together our private dog
training programs. Maybe you can benefit from the personalized program we offer.
During your phone consultation we highlight the challenges that you are facing. We talk about what your goals are, and a little bit about your lifestyle. We want to make sure we have all the information we need to put together a program that will match your needs. Once we have that information, you will be matched with the trainer best suited to your needs. Our appointments are scheduled at the same time each week so you and your trainer can plan the time to work with your pup.
Getting Started
Before your first session, you will get an invite to a google document we call your “Barking Lot.” This is where you will ask any questions you might have in between sessions. We encourage all of our students to add video for review and ask questions when they come up. Our programs are set up so you get as much time out of them as you need. The clients who keep in touch with us in between our in person sessions, make much more progress than those who don’t.
The barking lot will contain a list of 3 or 4 exercises with video that your trainer thinks will be beneficial for you and your pup. Those are the exercises your trainer will teach you during your in person session. These exercises are the pieces needed to reach the goals you have discussed with us. Each week those exercises will evolve based on your progress. We encourage you to work with your dog just 15 minutes each day to begin to see a difference in your dog’s behavior.
Tools for sustained success
As you make headway in your program, we also add beneficial enrichment activities. These activities help with appropriate access to dog centered behavior. Allowing your dog to be a dog and do dog things helps tremendously with many common behavior challenges. We want to make sure we are allowing activities that are appropriate for both your dog and your family. We do this to ensure that you and your dog live happy lives together long after we complete training.
The Elite Team
Our trainers meet once a month to discuss cases where things may not be going as planned. Often subtle changes make a big difference in your training plans. Having a team to bounce ideas off can been invaluable for many training plans. Often small change is something that we forgot we knew or had seen in the past.
Having a wonderful team of knowledgeable trainers also allows us to offer more training options for you and your pet. We often work together to help with polite greetings or decoy work for reactive dogs. This is very helpful when you need the help of friendly strangers but do not want to chase them around the pet store to help with your training program.
It also allows us to offer more group classes and workshops like our Reactive Recovery sessions and fun sport based workshops. These are great classes to help your dog get to where you need them to be in a fun and safe environment.
